Abstract

The Churchill Scholarship represents a unique opportunity for 18 American postgraduate students to engage in academic and cultural exchange between the United States and the United Kingdom. Inherently, each scholars’ personality and character are integral pillars within this mission, yet it is unclear what types of individuals enter the program every year. To address this gap, we collated the scholars’ astrological signs, a foolproof method to distill complex and multifaceted personalities into a digestible format. We also employed pedigree analysis to understand the inheritance patterns of astrological signs. Our findings reveal a significant enrichment of Leos within this cohort, and their distribution aligns with an apparent autosomal dominant inheritance pattern. Leos are renowned for their qualities of leadership and charisma; as such, this unique composition suggests that the 2023 Churchill Scholars are well-positioned to serve as strong academic and cultural ambassadors in their roles. Concerningly, however, we also found Leos were half as likely to have children through fission or adoption, translating to lower rates of genetic transmission and potential extinction in the next 2-3 generations.
